This variant of sett cobblestones has been common since a thousand years. The crushed-stones bed is being put on the roadbed (frost protection layer or cascade layer) in the correct incline and optionally, there might be concrete stones or natural stones placed onto that. Subsequently, the gaps are coated with crushed stone fines 0 – 2 mm and the pavement surface is pounded. In order to establish a fitting accuracy, the stones need to be, where required, twitched (split) on the edges or they need to be machine-cut with a diamond cutting disc. |

The sand joint needs to lower and compress itself in the course of time, and thus by pointing there stays a speck of sand on the surface, which should be washed down the gap by rain. It is fairly probable that the surface area would need to be grouted again in order to achieve a complete gap fill. |
